Booby Trap

Poor Baloo. My booby (as I sometimes call him) had a terrible day on Sunday. To start the day off poorly, we were out of dry cat food. I think we ran out of the food late Saturday night and I had planned to go to PetSmart to get a new bag on Sunday after church. But this was bad news to the cats. Even though they had wet food, they didn't know what to do with a dry food bowl for a full 12 hours.

I didn't know this until after the fact, but Adam was a witness once again to Baloo's near death experience. Sunday morning Adam was getting ready in the bathroom, showering, brushing teeth, etc. There's no telling where I was. And Baloo was hanging out in the bathroom with his daddy. Something to mention is that I hang my bra by one strap on the bathroom door handle with the other strap nearly touching the floor. Usually this is not a problem. Well, something scared Baloo in the bathroom and he panicked. When he's frightened, he runs. And I mean runs! He runs full force in a wreckless manner, with this time being no exception. He bolted toward the escape of the bathroom door. Somehow his head got caught in the bra strap, creating a noose-like effect. This freaked him out even more and he was trying to run full speed still but the strap was catching him by the neck. Adam said he turned to Baloo and was going to help him, but again Baloo tried to run away, so the force of it all caused the bra strap to whip him back like a slingshot and he hit the wall! OMG!!! How do I miss this stuff? Luckily, he escaped the booby trap unharmed.

Later in the afternoon, I let the cats outside to play in the backyard. I was studying my insurance material (drag) at our kitchen table near the sliding glass door so I could keep a half eye on them while studying. Some time passed & I heard some not-so-friendly noises and realized that there was a cat fight taking place. I slung open the door and was looking to save my babies. Around the corner flew Boo, with the huge tom cat following VERY closely! The tom cat caught up to Baloo as he was trying to run inside, and I think they had contact. It all happened so fast that I can hardly remember. Then the tom cat got scared because I was standing there and ran into the woods. 1 in, 1 to go. Where's Daisy? A few seconds later, she came around the corner with her tail in full puff mode. I think Daisy was left out of the fight. Boys only. Baloo seemed ok, just very startled. No scratches or blood. But his fur was ruffled on one side a little. I think the tom cat probably bit him or pawed at him. Geez!

Here's our brave warrior...

Also, we go to the doctor again tomorrow for an ultrasound, our first official one confirming the due date. It's set at August 19 right now, but tomorrow they will let us know if this is accurate due to the size of the baby. Can't wait!

Who is voting boy?

Seriously, I must know. Don't be shy, leave your comment. While you're at it, tell me why you think what you think. I'm so curious.

I cannot wait to know for sure in March!

I WANT TO PUKE!

I would like to revise my statement in the previous post about the nausea starting at night about 8pm. NOT TRUE ANYMORE!!! I was feeling sick almost all throughout class today, with the encore hitting around late afternoon-ish. The 45 minute car ride home in traffic didn't help matters, especially with the constant stopping & going associated with rush hour traffic.

I am debating whether dinner should be an option tonight. I almost want to just remain stationary for awhile and pray this ends. Another option may be to puke in the yard. Seriously. I have done this before and prefer it over puking in the toilet. That disgusts me. Placing my head where other body parts have been is nauseating. And the possibility of cleanup grosses me out too. Instead, the back/side yard has become a better option, as long as no one is around to witness my neanderthal-ish behavior. And I will be courteous to cover up the mess with pine straw, much like a cat would.

Strange, I know!!!!!

The end.

Almost 8 Weeks

I am about 8 weeks along now in my pregnancy. Each Wednesday pushes me forward into a new week and a new baby phase. To be honest, I haven't been keeping up with the baby center updates week to week. I feel like I basically know what progressions are taking place in there.

People are asking me if I feel sick. Typical question. And the answer is, YES, somewhat. But thankfully not nearly as bad as last time around where the nausea lasted all day every day. I noticed around 6 weeks (Christmas) that mild nausea would come & go, the important part being that it would actually GO! Then week 7 gained some momentum in the nausea department. Typically, I wake up hungry and feel a little sick until I eat. Then I'm usually fine during the day. The real problem comes at night, which is weird. Usually around 8pm until bedtime. I'm taking my prenatal vitamin right before bed, so this could not be causing the sick feeling. I'm trying an experiment with water only in a day vs. water accompanied by sweet tea, soda, juice (drinks with sugar). I may be on to something...In the meantime, I just have to remember that pregnancy can be unpredictable and unexplanable.

Also, brushing my teeth is DANGEROUS! My gag reflex is extra sensitive and my toothpaste seems way to strong. Every time I brush my tongue, I reach the virge of throwing up. But I always seem to get myself together before anything happens. Perfume & cologne seem overpowering and most bother me, even my own. Coffee is nauseating in and of itself.

In the food category, at first I wanted fruit and yogurt, healthy stuff. OJ was my favorite drink! One night I got up during the night to down a big glass. Weird for me because I normally don't like OJ too much. Then my taste centered around protein and fat, mostly fried chicken. I cannot get enough of chicken lately. I also went through a fake cheese phase (which happened in my last pregnancy too). I noticed this after grocery shopping when I came home with the following...cheese puffs, cheap mac & cheese (with the powdered cheese) and nacho doritos. With the exception of the Doritos, I almost never want the other items. And cereal has become a daily menu item, mostly Rice Krispies.

Well, no nausea yet tonight. I'm still conducting my sugar experiment, so I'll keep you posted on my findings (if you care!).

Good night :)

Back to School!

Ok, not really. I vowed NEVER to return to school. So over it. The sitting, studying and stressing is not worth it in my opinion. My B.A. in Journalism is good enough for me, especially since I'm not even using that degree. I'd like to think that if nothing else, perhaps it contributes to interesting blog posts. Anyway...

Today I attended the first day of my 5 day LAS course. My job requires me to obtain my Life, Accident & Sickness insurance license and I've been putting it off for a year. The gist is I must take the 40 hour course which will prepare me for the big test to then get my license. So this morning I woke rather early around 5:30am (rather than my normal 7:15am) and got myself pumped up for the class. I was actually looking forward to going. Weird I know. I have been rather cranky the last several days due to under stimulation. I forced myself to do a lot of nothing during my 4 day weekend, mostly because I wasn't feeling well with my sore throat. I also didn't feel like doing anything much. But the pure boredom led to irritability I'm afraid. Well, class sure cured the under stimulation piece, however not quite sure about a boredom remedy.

I actually liked having time to myself this morning, just slowly waking up and listening to the radio on my long drive to Atlanta. The training school is off of the Windy Hill exit off I75, so I was thankful to not have to go to downtown Atlanta. That would be a nightmare! I got to class early and got my pick of the seats (I'm chillin in the back row with quick access to the bathroom in case of emergency). And to my surprise, class was fairly interesting. At least the instructor has a sense of humor and can keep us awake. We got breaks every hour and I got to experience a 1 hour lunch break! This is a rarity.

This morning before class started, a lady came in carrying THE bag...the red & white bag... THIS bag...

This sparked a taste bud meltdown. I was practically drooling over her Chick-fil-A breakfast, even though I had eaten breakfast and was full. I must say that one thing to remember about pregnancy cravings is that once you have one, you MUST have whatever you're craving, and QUICK! Adam is learning this and he was thrilled to go on his first "pregnancy run" to KFC (yes, really) last night around 8:30pm. I just had to have it. As for the Chick-fil-A situation this morning, I thought I may not be able to last 3 hours until lunch. But noon finally rolled around and guess where I headed??? YES, straight to my favorite place. AND because they counted my change wrong, I scored a coupon for a free chicken biscuit!!! Yay! Definitely going back this week. Now I have to.

Ok, speaking of class, I need to be studying now. Waaah...I'd rather be blogging!

GNI

Ok, more about the girl's night in (aka GNI) from Friday. So us gals from church try to get together every so often for either a GNO or GNI. The evening usually consists of eating, talking and laughing so hard it hurts. Friday night we gathered at Kaci's house in Canton. Attire was PJ's only. We ate appetizers and pizza and for the grand finale, Diane baked a homemade blackberry cobbler - YUMMO! We intended to watch a girly movie, but didn't make it that far. We technically turned on the movie, but we were WAY too involved in conversation to actually watch it. Fun night! Oh, and did I mention that 5 out of 7 girls are pregnant? Whoa! Needless to say, at times there was a line to the bathroom. Here's some pics to share...

5 preggers girls...Kim, Rachael, Hillary, Kaci, Me

In order by due date: Me (August), Rachael (July), Hillary (April), Kim (April), Kaci (March)...

Again...

Preggers girls + Diane...

Ok, where's Chelsea? I guess she ended up taking all the pics on my camera so she never made it in the photos. Maybe she'll post some pics on her blog (hint, hint :)

Wait, I was able to steal one. Here's Chelsea & Diane, the two "non-pregnant" ones...

Welcome 2009!

My first post in 2009! I hope there aren't high expectations to live up to because I've got a lot of random thoughts going through my head. SO much has happened lately and I'm trying to recall what to write about first. Let me just start and see where I end up...

Ok, I'm so excited that a new year is here. A year of new beginnings and a time to put the past behind. 2008 was probably the most memorable year ever. Ever, ever. Much like a roller coaster, full of extreme highs and extreme lows. I hope 2009 is a bit more stable. We shall see. To bring in the new year, we had a pre-celebration with our good friends, Laurel & Graham. We met for dinner at Dantanna's in Atlanta and had a great meal with fabulous company. I even scored a free dessert of my choice just for being pregnant! Our waiter pulled me aside when we were leaving and said he felt bad that I had to eat well done meat and drink water, so he decided that I needed a free dessert (and he threw in 3 WHOLE pickles with my hamburger-all of which I ate). Yeah for freebies!

Anyway, after dinner we parted ways and Adam & I headed home to ring in the new year Emmett style, in our pj's and comfortable in our own home. We didn't want to be driving all over the place after midnight. All the crazies are out! Well, I struggled and struggled to stay awake! I started to fall asleep on the ride home and had to intently try to keep my head in an upright position and my eyes peeled open. What a task! We got home after 11pm, then got in our pajamas and crawled into bed. We were flipping through several New Year's Eve programs and overall were not impressed this year. Out of sleepiness and boredom, my eyes started to close but I got startled when people on the TV started screaming for the big countdown to the new year. So technically, I was up when the crossover hit. I think Adam was too. Then off with the lights and goodnight to 2008! C-ya!

I started 2009 with a terrible sore throat. I stayed in the bed pretty much all of Jan 1 & 2. So boring! I got bored with TV and felt extremely cooped up inside the house. I did get out last night for our traditional GNI - girls night in - with 6 friends from church. Out of the 7 of us, 5 are pregnant! I will blog about that at a later time when I can get my pics uploaded.

Today, Adam is working and I am yet again home alone. I'm enjoying being home in the rain though. I think I'm up for a little more activity today, probably light cleaning, organizing, putting up the junk cluttering our guest room, etc. Daisy & Baloo are cuddling now like little lovebugs. They are literally in each others arms. Oh, how sweet. Maybe I can sneak a picture. Gotta run...
