Ok, so I'm really almost 15 weeks, but I can't skip the major developments of this past week...
Baby Emmett:
Our baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him. He can grasp, and a current ultrasound may even catch him sucking his thumb! He's also streching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3.5 inches, about the size of a lemon, and he weighs 1.5 oz. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. He's starting to develop an ultra fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. In other news, his liver starts making bile this week and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though I can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, the baby's hands and feet are more flexible and active.
Mommy Emmett:
Welome to the 2nd trimester! (woo hoo!) My energy should be returning (sad to say, no, it's getting worse), my boobs may be feeling less tender (not quite), and my queasiness may be completely gone now (YES, hooray!). The top of my uterus is a bit above my pubic bone, which may be enough to push my tummy out a tad (yes, this IS happening).
On another note, I have been getting stomach cramps lately, which I know is normal. I think my tummy must be growing and stretching. I go back to the doctor on Thursday, so I will hopefully have some updates then. I should know the sex of the baby in about a month, so the countdown is on!
P.S. I think I know what it is :)
