Going On

What's been going on with us this week, you may be wondering?? Hmmm...let me think. No major news to share or I would have titled this blog more appropriately. Adam is running at the park almost every night. Although, his shin is bothering him recently which is causing a little problem. On Tuesday night we met our friends Kristin & Cory at the park. Cory & Adam are on the same team in their adventure race next weekend, so they are training together somewhat. And Kristin is pregnant (8 months)! So we are a perfect pair. Kristin & I walk a couple laps, chatting mostly about pregnancy. Kristin is having a girl and her name will be Hayden. Meanwhile, Adam & Cory run around and talk "man talk" I guess. God only knows their topics of discussion. So this was a fun night.

Last night we had some more cat drama. Did I mention we have new neighbors? Our next door neighbors moved in a couple weeks ago and brought with them a mama cat with a litter of 4 kitten!!! 2 orange & 2 grey ones (or is it "gray"...I always get those 2 mixed up). They are adorable but the neighbors leave them out a lot. They got soaking wet the other day and nearly broke my heart! I wanted to scoop them all up and bring them in our house. But I restrained. Then the neighbors brought in all the kittens and left the mama cat outside for most of several days. This mama cat (who is nursing) was beside herself...howling all night, crying by our doors, even climbing up our screen window on one occasion hoping we would let her in. I know she was searching for her babies! She even darted in our house on a couple occasions. She is the sweetest little thing, and I have named her Stella. She has 2 pink collars and she loves being held and being indoors. I even got a tick off her the other day. Mama Emmett to the rescue. Well, onto the drama...

The kittens haven't been visible for many days. Only "Stella." And for the most part she has been behaving. Yesterday after dinner I walked onto our patio and discovered Stella on the neighbors patio with 2 grey/gray babies. Don't know where the orange ones are. I was planning on letting our little rascals out into the backyard anyway, so I did. I was supervising them though and would not let them go near the other cats. Well, Daisy was released from the house and immediately began playing in the grass. She gets "in the zone" and is a master player. She hardly notices anything except bugs when she plays, including the cats next door. She was safely playing by herself. Baloo, on the other hand, noticed the other cats immediately. He was peeking at them from under our patio table, not in a threatening way at all. Then he stepped a few feet closer to the end of our patio, still a good 20-30 feet away from the other cats. The moment he got closer, Stella lunged at Baloo! She jumped several feet in the air and was after him. He didn't know what to do, and his instincts told him to run. So he ran in a circle around our house, Stella a few feet behind him. Lap 1 and they then went around for lap 2. During this time, I scooped Daisy up and threw her in the house. I yelled for Adam and he came out. Then on the close of lap 2, I opened the sliding glass door for Baloo to run to, but Stella cut a corner and caught up to him and blocked him from the door. So he kept running around the house and Stella finally stopped. I pet her and she was sweet with me. Then the neigbor (a little boy) came running out after all the commotion and found that his cat was on the prowl. He called her over and they put the kittens up. But where did Baloo go? I ran around to the front of the house not knowing where he ended up. I found my baby hiding behind the bush we have in our front yard, scared to DEATH! He didn't move but his eyes were huge. I picked him up and carried him inside. Poor Boo! He really didn't do anything wrong, but I can certainly understand why the mama cat was so protective. It was a panic at first, but now it's kinda funny. I wish we could set up a camera at our house so everyone can witness our crazy cat drama. It's been one thing after another. I can only imagine how crazy life will be when our little Baby Emmett arrives.
